About Roots & Voices

Through storytelling, publishing, documentary film, photography, oral history, historic preservation, gardens, education, and community-centered programming, we explore the connections between land, ancestry, memory, and identity. We honor the people who planted for futures they might never see, preserve histories too often overlooked, and create spaces where everyday voices are recognized as part of the historical record.

We believe preservation is about more than saving old buildings or collecting artifacts. It is about safeguarding the human stories held within our homes, landscapes, family traditions, and lived experiences.

Our work begins with one historic South Carolina property and garden, but its purpose reaches far beyond one place: to inspire individuals and communities to document their own histories, reclaim their narratives, and pass them forward.
